We are developing the next generation of certified prevention workforce in Urban America.
We talk to individuals and businesses about why it is important for prevention workers to continue education. We then prepare classes and workshops where we review Ohio Certified Prevention (OCP) certification requirements. ArkBuilders staff will teach the individual in the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) process.
Our program then teaches the worker how to develop coalitions or collaborations to address community issues. The worker is finally taught how to develop their own theory of change and logic model for communities. We train workers in developing a community-based readiness program through 12 categories.
Our goal is to train urban youth organizations in the youth-led process and develop urban prevention/community workers.
Why is leadership development so important in the urban core?
- Without developed leadership there can be no progress (the talent tenth principal)
- Lack of indigenous leadership lead to dependency
We also strive to develop certified prevention workforce in Urban America:
- The case for continuing education and equipped workforce
- Prepare worker for the OCP certifications
- Ground prevention worker in the SPF process
- Train prevention worker in the community-based process
- Develop theory of Change and Logic Model
- Train prevention workers in community readiness process force development

Planning – Develop a strategic plan, Planning involves the creation of a comprehensive plan with goals, objectives, and strategies aimed at meeting the substance abuse prevention needs of the community. During this phase, organizations select logic models and evidence-based policies and programs. They also determine costs and resources needed for effective implementation.
Implementation – Implement effective community programs, policies and practices, the implementation phase of the SPF process is focused on carrying out the various components of the prevention plan, as well as identifying and overcoming any potential barriers. During program implementation, organizations detail the evidence-based policies and practices that need to be undertaken, develop specific timelines, and decide on ongoing program evaluation needs.
Evaluation – Evaluate their efforts for outcomes. Evaluation helps organizations recognize what they have done well and what areas need improvement. The process of evaluation involves measuring the impact of programs and practices to understand their effectiveness and any need for change. Evaluation efforts therefore greatly influence the future planning of a program. It can also impact sustainability, because evaluation can show that resources are being used wisely
Sustainability – Sustainability refers to the process through which a prevention system becomes a norm and is integrated into ongoing operations. Sustainability is vital to ensuring that prevention values and processes are firmly established, that partnerships are strengthened, and that financial and other resources are secured over the long term.
