The coronavirus pandemic has exposed the need for continuous self-care. Here are some tips to help anyone spend time focusing on physical and mental wellness.
Tip #1: Writing/Journaling – writing stories, poetry, and/or journal entries are great ways to process thoughts and feelings. It can help reduce stress while providing a form of positive self-expression. Getting started with journaling requires a notebook and a pen/pencil. Next, just write what’s on your mind!
Tip #2: Social Connection – staying connected with friends and family while following the set guidelines for social distancing is important. You can make video phone calls to friends/family, write letters or send a card in the mail. Video chat with Facebook, Instagram, Zoom, etc is also a great option.
Tip #3: Physical Care – it is important to pay attention to your body’s physical needs. Make sure to get enough sleep, eat a balanced and nutritious diet, and engage in enjoyable physical activity such as a walk or dancing around the living room! Of course, always consult your doctor before adding any new physical activity.
Tip #4: Gratitude – think about being thankful. Even small thoughts, like how much you appreciate your morning cup of coffee, can help create a positive atmosphere for the rest of your day. Also make sure to express gratitude to your friends and/or family. This will help spread positivity and brighten everyone’s day. Even during tough times, expressing gratitude can help remind you of the wonderful things in your life.
Tip #5: Positive Thoughts – information consumed in the news or social media can sometimes be negative or overwhelming. Be intentional and think as many positive thoughts as you can. If you are a person of faith, this could possibly occur while praying. Meditation or mindfulness practice can also help with this.
