November 13 was World Kindness Day, but you don’t need only one day a year to be kind! Here are some quick and easy ways to spread joy and community in your neighborhood, especially during a pandemic.
- Text a friend or relative that you’re thinking about them
- Write a handwritten letter (and support the Post Office!)
- Donate to your favorite organization (even a dollar can help!)
- Donate to a friend’s GoFundMe
- Volunteer virtually (visit catchafire.org)
- Deliver a meal to someone in quarantine
- Buy groceries for an elderly person who can’t go out
- Say “thank you” always
- Have a backyard or porch hangout with a friend
- Send a cute picture to someone feeling down (who doesn’t love kitties or puppies?)
- Have a virtual hangout with family or friends
- Give kudos to coworkers
- Donate old/used books to local education organizations
- Buy gift cards from locally-owned businesses
- Watch a movie with a friend over video call
- Offer to skillshare with a neighbor or friend (teach piano, tutor math, etc.)
- Tell someone you know that you’re proud of them
- Do yard work for homebound neighbors
- Paint Kindness Rocks and spread them around your neighborhood
- Write encouraging messages in chalk on sidewalk
